The Ndrezzata
The ‘Ndrezzata is a dance with arms by the units of the Buonopane faction, during the festivities of Easter Monday, of San Giovanni and of the Assumption. The men armed with swords and “mazzarielli„ (wood sticks) dance with excitement in rhythm in a circle (while hitting themselves for real !), miming a war dance or a love act. According to some studies, the origins of this ritual take back to the honorific rites for Apollo, related to the Nitrodi fountain ; according to others, it’s part of the mystical rite of the Mediterranean Tarantism movement.
